Delta State Govt. Sealed Over 80 Sawmills In Ugwaja Community, Sapele.
Earlier this morning, Fri. 26th of Jan. 2024, the Delta State Task Force on Environment, led by Chief Godspower Omafuvwe Asiuwhu JP & his team in collaboration with Sapele Local Government Council, moved against Sawmills owners and operators in Ugwaja community, Sapele in Sapele local government area over their unrepentant attitudes of uncontrolled burning of sawdust.
According to Chief Asiuwhu, said that the act of uncontrolled burning of sawdust & dumping into the river is hazardous to aquatic life and human living in the area and its neighborhoods.
Speaking further, Chief Asiuwhu said that the government is particularly pained by their continued neglects of government calls for caution and compliance.
Thus, the government of Rt Hon Sheriff Oborevwori will not condone act that is inimical to the safety of its citizens, which he had sworn under oath to protect.
During the operation of sealing the sawmills, inhabitants of the area applauded the move of the State Government to curtail the ugly act of sawdust burning, which has been endangering their lives.
They prayed that this government should distinguish itself from others by seeing to total compliance of the environment laws as it applies to them.
Others who spoke in the same vein applauding the operation of the State Government were Hon. Apiyor Henry, supervisor on Environment, Sapele LGC, and Hon. Raymond Okubenje, Councilor representing DSIEC Ward 9, Sapele LGC.
